IIT Admission 2019: IIT Bombay sustains its preferred status amongst the toppers of the JEE Advanced exam 2019. The top 64 students of the exam have taken admission in IIT Bombay through the first round of JoSAA counselling 2019 followed by the next 33 toppers who had opted for admission in IIT Delhi. While IIT Kanpur had 3 students from the top 100 opting for admission in the institute, IIT Madras has only one student.
The first round of seat allotment through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority was released on 27th June, 2019. Candidates were allotted seats in IITs, NITs, IIITs and government-funded technological institutions based on their merit and opted preferences. Around 2 lakh students registered for admissions to premier institutions of the country, out of the 11.5 lakh students who appeared for the JEE Main exam 2019.
Among the top 500 rankers in the JEE Advanced 2019 exam, 147 and 142 students have taken up admissions in IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi respectively. 53 and 52 students took up admissions in IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur while 47 and 35 students for IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee respectively. From the newer IITs, seven students from the top 500 chose IIT Hyderabad.
The most sought after course this year is Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at IIT Bombay. The JEE Advanced 2019 girl topper from Ahmedabad, Shabnam Sahay, also opted for the same branch at IIT Bombay. The closing rank in the first round for IIT Bombay was 63 overall and 313 for the girl category.
Subhasis Chaudhary, Director, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay claimed that IIT Bombay is the most preferred institute among toppers in all disciplines and not just computer science. He said that the institute offers a wide variety of subjects and excellent ambiance for learning. He also credited the highly experienced and qualified faculty for guiding the students to in becoming leaders of tomorrow.
