The GRE syllabus is divided into three primary sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. The Verbal Reasoning section evaluates your ability to understand and analyze written material, identify relationships between words, and draw conclusions from texts. It includes reading comprehension, text completion, and sentence equivalence tasks. The Quantitative Reasoning section tests your basic mathematical skills, understanding of algebra, arithmetic, and geometry, along with data interpretation. It involves solving mathematical problems and analyzing quantitative data. Lastly, the Analytical Writing section assesses your ability to express complex ideas clearly and logically through two tasks: the Issue Task, where you present your opinion on a topic, and the Argument Task, where you critique an argument. The GRE also includes an unscored research section to test new questions, which does not impact your score.
