HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday made it \nclear that he was never an ally of the BJP nor a part of NDA, dismissing\n allegations that he had sailed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi \ncovertly for the last five years and later broke up with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was the first person to call Narendra\n Modi a fascist after the Centre transferred seven mandals from \nTelangana to Andhra Pradesh immediately after the bifurcation of the \nState in 2014,\u201d a combative Chief Minister said in reply to a question \nat a news conference at his official residence of Pragati Bhavan here on\n Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chief Minister went on the offensive\n when asked why he had not invited the Prime Minister for the \ninauguration of the State government\u2019s flagship project Kaleshwaram Lift\n Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). \u201cThere is no need for inviting him for \neverything. I have invited him for laying the foundation stone for \nMission Bhageeratha. As far as Kaleshwaram project is concerned, I am \nthe achiever and I will be inaugurating it on June 21. The Chief \nMinisters of AP and Maharashtra would attend as chief guests,\u201d Rao said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When asked why he had skipped NITI Aayog meeting at Delhi recently, the Chief Minister shot back: \u201cWe have our own priorities in the State. It is time for the grand inauguration of Kaleshwaram and I had to review arrangements for it since two Chief Ministers are going to attend the ceremony. I did not have time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asserting that he had never veered \ntowards the Prime Minister at any point of time, the Chief Minister said\n that he was committed to pushing forward his concept of Federal Front \nwhich he had enunciated in the past to empower the states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI have not forsaken Federal Front. I am\n with it. I am not overly enamoured by the BJP or Narendra Modi,\u201d he \nsaid and pointed out that the relations with the Centre would be at \ngovernment to government level. If we had supported Ram Nath Kovind when\n he stood for election for the office of the President of India, it was \nbecause we had adopted a policy of extending support to the Centre \nbasing on issues and Kovind\u2019s election appeared appropriate to us,\u201d Rao \n said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, TRS working president KT Rama Rao will attend the \nmeeting. The reason cited was inauguration of Kaleshwaram project \nscheduled on Friday, for which the CMs of Maharashtra and AP are \nexpected to attend. Rao, however, said at a news conference that he was \ngame for simultaneous polls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He reiterated that on issues that have a\n bearing on Telangana, the TRS would surely fight, indicating that the \nNDA was neither a foe nor a friend and that his party would support the \nCentre or struggle against it solely based on the merits of the issue at\n stake. <\/p>\n\n\n\n He recalled bitterly the step-motherly \ntreatment the Centre had meted out to the State. \u201cWe did not get even \none rupee for Kaleswaram Project from the Centre. We have funded the \nproject entirely.
