Yadaiah,\n also the TS-EAMCET convenor; V. Uma Maheshwar, mechanical engineering \nprofessor and placement officer of OU College of Engineering (OUCE); S. \nKrishna Rao, professor and head of civil engineering department at \nVignana Bharati Institute of Technology; A. Gopal Sharma, professor and \nhead of electronics and communication department, Stanley College of \nEngineering and Technology for Women; K. Bhanu Sankara Rao, Pratt and \nWhitney Chair Professor, University of Hyderabad and B.P. Padala, \nchairman, Roots Institutions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the outset, Mr. Yadaiah walked \nthe aspirants through the EAMCET counselling procedure and later spoke \nat length about a popularly-asked question \u2014 how to select a college. He\n listed out the parameters \u2014 National Institute Ranking Framework\u2019s \nranking of institutes, National Assessment and Accreditation Council\u2019s \nassessment, kind of companies that visit a college to recruit students, \nfaculty, laboratory facilities and research centres at a particular \ninstitute. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also advised the youngsters and their parents to visit the colleges they are considering getting into.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen\n it comes to the selection of a branch, a candidate has to be sure of \nhis\/her interest in that subject. I appeal to all parents not to \npressurise their wards,\u201d Mr. Yadaiah said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Guiding_girl_students\"><\/span>Guiding girl students<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Another\n common question posed at the session was whether female students can \nchoose mechanical engineering and civil engineering courses, and if \ncompanies hesitate to recruit girls who pursue such courses. In reply, \nOUCE placement officer Mr. Uma Maheshwar said corporate companies do not\n differentiate between men and women during recruitment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \nexperts also explained job prospects in circuit courses and core \ncourses. They said that those who graduate in mechanical, civil or \nelectrical engineering courses have an option of applying for jobs in \npublic sector units too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u201cA student opting circuit courses like \nEC, CSE, EEE and IT is expected to work in inter-disciplinary areas. If \nopting for electronics and communications engineering or computer \nscience engineering, you should have good programming skills,\u201d Prof. \nGopal Sharma said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To groom oneself into a thorough professional,\n Mr. Uma Maheshwar said, one has to focus on learning applications of \nconcepts of the course that they choose to pursue, be a self learner, \ninteract and network with faculty and alumni, improve soft skills, be a \nteam player and organise many events at college. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne should \nupdate oneself on global and national current affairs as well as \nbusiness trends.
