\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Bihar government has decided to fill the\never growing vacancies of faculty in its eight universities through Bihar\nPublic Service Commission (BPSC). There has been no appointment of teachers for\nover nine years. At present there are 3395 vacancies in the universities which\nare causing great handicaps in carrying out the academic activities.
\nTo facilitate the appointments, an amendment in\nthe Bihar State Universities Act will be affected to pave the way for the\nappointment through BPSC. The education department has already prepared the\ndraft which is to be sent to the cabinet for approval.
\nThe universities having large vacancies are\nMagadh University (650), BRA Bihar University (600), L N Mithila University\n(550), Tilka Manjhi University (425), J P University (380), Veer Kuer Singh\nUniversity (360), B N Mandal University (230) and Patna University (200).
\nEarlier an amendment bill had been introduced\nwhich had proposed constitution of a University Commission but it was turned\ndown governor Devanand Konwar, who is also chancellor of the state\nuniversities, saying it was a finance bill. After that the government decided\nto go for new appointments through the BPSC. “We hope to make the\nappointments before the start of next academic session in 2013,” said\neducation department principal secretary Amarjeet Sinha. The proposal after the\napproval of education minister P K Shahi has been referred to the law\ndepartment.
\nWelcoming the government move former chief\nsecretary and ex vice chancellor of Nalanda Open University V S Dubey said this\nsystem of appointment of university teachers through public service commission\nis in place. “I had recommended this system in 2006,” said Dubey who\nhad been made chairman of reforms commission.
\nAnother ex VC and retired IAS officer I C Kumar\nsaid this will be a right decision and redcalled that earlier also college and\nuniversity teachers were being appointed through BPSC. “The appointments\nmade by the BPSC will end the controversy,” he added.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
